Introductory Activity – Four in a Row
- Large white board, dry erase markers and eraser, numbered cube
On the board, draw a 5 x 5 grid. In each space, print a word from this unit’s stories. Number each row of words. Below is an example of a grid.
Group the kids into two teams. Guide Team 1 to roll the cube. Then they look along the rolled row and choose a word. (If a 6 is rolled, the team can choose any word on the board.) They say the word and tell a fact from a Bible story about that word. Erase the word and mark and X for Team 1. Repeat with Team 2 but mark an O for Team 2. Continue alternating turns. A team wins if they get 4 squares in a row.
Tell kids that today’s story takes place after all these events.

Game – Word Scramble
- Index cards, marker, scissors
Print the words of the Life Point on cards, one word per card. Cut each card in half; use wavy or zigzag lines to make each card’s cut different. Make two or more sets of cards. Mix the card pieces.
Distribute the card pieces to kids. Say: “Go!” Kids should search to find the other halves of their cards. When pairs find each other, they should move to the side with their words. When all the pairs have been found, lead partners to stand in order to make the Life Point. (The same words can stand behind one another to make lines.)
Say the Life Point together. Talk about the Bible story.
Craft – Flip Reminder
- Paper, clear sheet protectors, crayons or markers, yarn, scissors
Guide kids to print the words of the Life Point on a piece of paper and the words of the Life Verse on another one. Talk about the Bible story and who Jesus is. Lead kids to draw pictures or make designs around the words on each piece of paper. Help a kid place his papers back-to-back and slide into a sheet protector. Cut a length of yarn 24-36 inches. Help the kid tie the ends of the yarn to the holes in the sheet protector to make a hanger. Suggest kids hang the words on their bedroom doors, on a wall, or on another visible place. They can remember that Jesus will return to earth some day.
Introductory Activity – Book Search
- Bibles; letter cards (A, S, C, E, N, S, I, O, N)
Mix the cards. Guide kids to choose cards and find books in the Bible that begin with the chosen letter. Continue for several minutes. Then guide kids to arrange the letters to form a word. Tell kids that they will hear about the ascension today.

Game – Write It Down
- Paper, pencils
Group kids into three groups. Ask a review question. Lead each group to write down its answer for the entire group. Teams should stand when they have finished their answers. Call on a group to give its answer. Tell kids to sit and ask another review question. Talk about the Life Point.
Craft – Hanging Life Point
- Paper plates, scissors, hole punches, yarn, markers
Review the Bible story. Talk about the Life Point. Tell kids that it is important to remember that Jesus is coming back to earth. Lead a kid to cut paper plates into pieces. He can punch a hole in the top and bottom of each piece and use lengths of yarn to tie the pieces together; leave space between each word as you tie them together. Tie a length of yarn in the top hole for a hanger. Tell kids to hang their hangers from the ceiling in their rooms. When they look up (like the disciples did), they can remember that Jesus is coming again someday.
