Remember when all this started? Remember when businesses began closing and we began to isolate in our homes? During the beginning days of this strange season, there was so much uncertainty around how we would continue, but many of us took the opportunity to find new hobbies, read more, or create new habits that would better ourselves for when all of this would return to normal.
But it hasn’t. For many of us, the stack of books we poured through have been replaced with lists of worries. The tutorial videos or foreign language learning apps have been replaced with anxieties of what’s next. The excitement we had to be able to work from home for a month or two has been replaced with fear and a loss of control. For many of us, there is no end in sight.
But God always has an end in sight, and it’s no coincidence that this winter, Bible Studies for Life is studying emotions and spiritual disciplines. One of those weeks of study specifically addresses fear and how God walks with us regardless of our circumstances. That week’s lesson is our gift to you. We have put together a kit of resources that all focused on how to become aware of our fear and anxiety, acknowledge it, and allow God to move us through it.
In addition to the resources we have for you, we have a podcast episode on this very subject. I recently sat down with Dr. Chip Dodd, a counselor in the Nashville area, for a special episode of Discipleology. In it, we discussed how fear actually produces preparation, wisdom, and faith.
The world worships health, wealth, safety, and prosperity. We need to acknowledge what we’re afraid of. We are afraid in many ways that God isn’t enough. We are afraid of what’s always happened to others, but now it’s happening to us. We are afraid. Learn, prepare, and live out what God says.
It is our prayer during this season that whatever feelings you are working through, you find God near. We may not know when the pandemic will be over or how the world will look next year, but I will rest in knowing that our powerful God is in control. That brings me peace that surpasses all understanding.
